Research Update: Development of unique maize source germplasm. The goal of the project is to develop new and unique maize inbred lines for breeding new cultivars by national programs for the benefit of African farmers in various ecosystems. The project has generated 1885 new inbred lines from over 60,000 plant pollination. The project has also conducted hands-on training in maize germplasm development and management for PhD students at African Centre for Crop improvement (ACCI) University of KwaZulu-Natal.
