Field visit to cassava
breeding trails at Namulonge
Following
closure of room-based discussions, a field trip to Namulonge Agricultural
and Animal Production Research Institute (NAARI), was made to further share
experiences among the cassava breeders. At NAARI, participants were
received by the then Acting Director of Research, Dr. George Bigirwa, who
broadly briefed them about NAARI research activities, and latter invited
them for field tour. Thereafter, the participants made spot visits to the
cassava breeding fields: crossing block, seedling nursery, inbreeding sites,
clonal evaluation site, maintenance breeding blocks, and the multiplication
sites, where further interactions, discussions and positive criticisms were
made.
